MOD-PRESENT - HIS111 (NCAA) CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 LCHS, 3 WITCC Elective/Required: Elective Option Grade Level: 11, 12 This is a college-level history course, and college-level work will be expected. This course includes the study of the rise of nation-states in Europe from the Age of Absolutism through the modern era. Students will participate in discussions, note taking, and will be expected to read the test thoroughly on their own. Students will take multiple- choice quizzes, complete review questions, and take and essay test over each chapter. The course also requires the completion of 3 research papers over focused topics. CURRENT EVENTS (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Elective/Required: Elective Option Grade Level: 11, 12 This course is a study of current events at all levels: international, national, regional, and local. Students will be encouraged to actively participate in the class by bringing current events to class for consideration. Students will also need to keep up on current events by using various media (internet, newspaper, television, radio). Group and individual projects will help students to better understand what is going on in today’s global society. ECONOMICS (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Grade Level: 11, 12 This is a required course taken during your junior year. This course will help you to develop an understanding of the American free enterprise system. You will study the basis of production, labor, the role of the consumer, government involvement, and the U.S. as part of the world economy. An investment unit is also included. IOWA HISTORY (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Elective/Required: Elective Option Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course will give students an in-depth look at the people, places, and things that make Iowa great. Students will begin by studying the conditions in which Iowa became a state. Students will then analyze the roles that Iowa played in important historical events such as the Civil War, the Great Depression, and the Industrial Revolution. MODERN AMERICAN HISTORY (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Elective/Required: Elective Option Grade Level: 11, 12 Students in Modern American History will study American history in the modern times. Beginning with the Nixon years and all the way to the present day, students will engage in a study of historical moments, movements, and people in the 21 st century of American history.
