The emphasis is on descriptive statistics, probability, binomial and normal distributions, elementary sampling theory, hypothesis testing, and linear regression. Appropriate ACT or ALEKS score on math assessment or prerequisite course required. GEOMETRY (NCAA) Course Length : 1 Year Credits: 2 Elective/Required: Required Option Prerequisite: Passing grade in Algebra both semesters Grade Level: 10, 11, 12 This course is designed to follow Algebra. Topics include: parallel and perpendicular lines, the study of polygons and circles using deductive reasoning, and basic constructions. This course is recommended for students who plan to attend a technical school. The student will need to provide his/her own 3-ring binder and loose leaf paper. Students will want a scientific or graphic calculator. MODERN ALGEBRA 1 (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Year Credits: 2 Elective/Required: Required Option Grade Level: 9 This is a course extending basic mathematical concepts to the use of variables. Solving problems with an unknown will also be presented. Students who enroll in this class should have a sound math background. It provides the fundamentals of a standard algebra course: simplifying variable expressions, solving equations, graphing linear and quadratic and rational functions, and problem solving. This course will cover these topics at a faster pace and more in-depth compared to Algebra 1. Students will want a three-ring binder. MODERN ALGEBRA 2 (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Year Credits: 2 Elective/Required: Required Option Prerequisite: Passing grade in Modern Geometry and Algebra Grade Level: 10, 11 Modern Algebra 2 is a college-prep course. This course expands on topics covered in Algebra and Modern Geometry. MODERN GEOMETRY (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Year Credits: 2 Elective/Required: Required Option Prerequisite: Passing grade in Algebra both semesters (9 th graders who wish to take Modern Geometry must have at least a B- in Algebra in 8 th grade in order to take the class as a 9 th grader) Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 Students who have completed Algebra will find this course useful in preparing for college, university, or technical school. This class covers many of the same topics as Geometry, but at a faster pace, in more depth and using more algebra. Geometry develops the deductive thought process. The college prep classes taken upon successful completion of Modern Geometry include Modern Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus. Freshman in Modern Geometry would have the opportunity to take Calculus as seniors. The student will need to provide his/her own English-metric ruler, protractor, compass, 3-ring binder, and loose leaf paper. Students will want a scientific or graphing calculator.
