P a g e | 39 ORCHESTRA Course Length: 1 Semester/Year Credits: 1 Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 A fee will be charged for cleaning uniforms. A fee will be charged for use of school-owned instruments. Rehearsals are scheduled the same period as band. Scheduling of duplicated personnel will be determined by the Director of Music. There are two groups available for participation: 1. STRING ORCHESTRA – both semesters. Seating placement is determined by audition and by the director. Students will participate in all home concerts and State Large Group Contest. Students may participate or audition for: State Solo and Small Ensemble Contest, All State Music Festival, musical (when offered), festivals, clinics and other related activities. 2. SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - is second semester. Students will participate in State Large Group Contest, final concert in May and commencement (every other year). Wind, brass and percussion students will be selected upon the recommendation of the High School Band Director. VOCAL MUSIC Course Length: 1 Semester/Year Credits: 1 Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 A fee will be charged for cleaning choir robes. 1. CONCERT CHOIR - Membership is available to all students 9 - 12 registered at Le Mars Community High School. A full range of music literature will be studied and performed. A student must belong to the Concert Choir or Chamber Choir to be eligible to participate in any other vocal group or activity offered by the Vocal Music Department. The Concert Choir performs at all required vocal concerts as well as State Large Group Contest. The choirs take a trip once every four years. To be eligible for the trip, students must be in choir for a minimum of 2 consecutive years: the year before a trip and the year of the trip. 2. CHAMBER CHOIR - Chamber Choir is available to students in grades 10-12 by audition only. A full range of music literature will be studied and performed. A student must belong to the Concert Choir or Chamber Choir to be eligible to participate in any other vocal group or activity offered by the Vocal Music Department. The Chamber Choir performs at all required vocal concerts, State Large Group Contest, and the LCHS Commencement Ceremony. The choirs take a trip once every four years.
