P a g e | 32  WORLD LITERATURE (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Elective/Required: Required Option Grade Level: 11, 12 World Literature is a course designed to introduce a variety of cultures and their literature to students. We read genres ranging from mythology, folk tales, and legends, to non-fiction stories and poetry. The class includes literature from Asian, Greek, Roman, Arabic, African, Mexican, and European cultures. A variety of writing assignments are paired with the readings. This is a good class for students who enjoy history and want to learn more about the common story patterns that many cultures share. WORKPLACE COMMUNICATIONS – COM 723 Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 LCHS, 3 WITCC (credits do not transfer to a 4-year school) Elective/Required: Required Option Grade Level : 12 This course is a study of the principles and processes of written and oral communication as applied to occupational and personal use through practical reading, writing, and speaking assignments. It emphasizes technical report writing, including preparation, organization, audience and the effective use of format, supplements and visuals. YEARBOOK Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Elective/Required: Elective Option Grade Level : 12 A limited number of seniors are selected each year to produce the LCHS yearbook, Bark . Students who are interested must be highly motivated, self-driven, organized, and hardworking. Computer literacy (such as Adobe Photoshop) is an advantage but not a requirement. This course does not meet the English requirement for graduation. FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCE (Elective Credits) 21 ST CENTURY FOODS Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Grade Level : 9, 10, 11, 12 This class is for the student that wants to learn about nutrition, healthy eating practices, and healthy food preparation techniques. You will be introduced to equipment needs, food safety, how foods meet our nutritional needs, & efficient food preparation techniques. Evaluation will be written and performance based. Tasting food is required in this class. CHILD DEVELOPMENT Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Grade Level : 9, 10, 11, 12 Child Development is an elective course for high school students in which they will learn how a child develops before and after birth. This course can help to prepare students planning to enter medical, child care, teaching or social work careers. Those students not pursuing a career in the above areas can benefit also by learning future parenting skills. Working with children is a part of this class.
