ART APPRECIATION Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals Grade Level: 10, 11, 12 This course encourages students to gain an understanding and appreciation of art in their everyday lives. Themes covered may include art terminology and principles of design, definition of art, cultural purposes of art, visual elements of art, and artists/time periods throughout history. Art videos, critiques of artworks, lecture, notes, and class presentations will be a part of the class. ART FUNDAMENTALS Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Prerequisite: None Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 This is a basic introductory course that explores a variety of artistic styles, mediums, and the fundamentals of art. The class investigates, discusses, and implements the elements and principles of design through a number of diverse art projects. During the course of the semester, students will explore movements in art history as well as specific styles. DRAWING Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course seeks to create a better understanding for art through drawing. Students will explore a number of drawing techniques and artistic styles. The class will focus around the 5 Perception Skills in Drawing. Students will seek to create a personal connection with art and a variety of individualized projects. INDEPENDENT STUDIO Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals, Drawing, Painting, and teacher approval Grade Level : 11, 12 This course is designed to allow the individual to pursue media or mediums of choice. The student must be a strong independent thinker and worker. The student will assist in setting up the curriculum with the teacher. The goal is to create personal, meaningful, and individualized artwork. The course is designed for the college-bound visual art student. FOLK ART Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Prerequisite: None Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 Open your mind and eyes to art from around the world. The course includes the study and viewing of artwork from other countries and cultures. Students will focus on a particular culture/country and then create and make art from here in a similar manner.
